Cul-De-Sac calm, golf course green and mid-century magic

At the very end of a quiet cul-de-sac, overlooking the rolling of Green Acres golf club, this is the kind of home that completely shifts your expectations. Expansive in scale, rich in mid-century character and thoughtfully updated for modern living, it feels private, peaceful and immersed in landscape. Surrounded by lush gardens, the entry opens to a striking modernist interior where the entire ground floor is dedicated to living. A vast open-plan kitchen, dining and living domain is oriented to the north, drawing in natural light and framing leafy outlooks at every turn. Walls of glass and oversized sliding doors extend seamlessly to the alfresco and garden beyond, creating a space that works just as beautifully for slow family weekends as it does for long-table celebrations.Outside, there is nothing but green. Layered gardens unfold in every direction, with nooks and crannies to play, pause or simply stretch out with a book. The kitchen is as functional as it is refined, appointed with quality Miele appliances including an induction stovetop, fully integrated fridge and freezer, marble benchtops and a concealed butler’s pantry that keeps appliances and prep neatly tucked away. Upstairs, the mood shifts to quiet retreat. The main bedroom is generous and serene, with space to sleep, work or step out onto the balcony, complemented by built-in robes and easy access to a central bathroom. Two additional large bedrooms with built-in robes, a study nook and a separate powder room complete the level with flexibility for growing families. Below, a substantial basement adds yet another layer, offering a studio, guest accommodation or teen retreat and extensive storage. Includes off street parking, updated second bathroom, separate laundry, split system heating and cooling, ceiling fans and so much more. This private pocket keeps daily life simple. Willsmere Village and Kew Junction are just minutes away for coffee, groceries and dinner plans; city-bound buses are close by, and the Eastern Freeway keeps the city within easy reach. A rare combination of mid-century presence, garden sanctuary and golf course outlook, all in a tightly held pocket.

Owners Notes

What we love about this home

We love the fact that despite it being so close to the city, we come home to a rural oasis every day. The huge windows in most of the rooms look on to rolling green vistas with no other houses in sight. The bird life is amazing, from nesting rosellas, king parrots, kookaburras, magpies, cockatoos, corellas and the distinctive calls of the elegant black cockies. There is also the occasional kangaroo. The mid-century style of the house is so open, light and relaxing, bringing peace and serenity where you can leave all of the daily pressures of life behind. There’s plenty of space to get away from each other or hang together as a family in the open living, kitchen dining area. It’s also a great entertaining house, whether inside or out. The kitchen was designed for entertaining - integrated into the dining and living space so that we could chat to our guests or family while we cooked; plus there are two ovens and an extra wide cooktop.

The house has been such a great place to bring up our children; there were constant games of hide and seek in the garden and various spaces in the house. Reminiscing about her childhood here, my daughter say that it was such a magical place to grow up, as it created a space for so much imaginative and creative play. The house and garden, local nature trails and parks promoted a really active lifestyle for our kids as they grew up. The neighbours are terrific and have become close friends. There is a lovely sense of community in ‘the island’.

What we love about this suburb:

Kew East has an abundance of walking a bike tracks and a feeling of being lost in the bush. But despite this, it’s so close to the city. The food shops such as Toscano’s and Boccaccio are some of the best in the city, so if you like cooking or just eating, it’s a great place to live. My three children went to the local primary school, walking there and back with friends every day. The local parks and playgrounds have loads of activities for small kids and there are lots of great sporting clubs for them to get involved in. Numerous local coffee shops are also a great place to catch up with people and make new friends. All in all there is a great sense of community in the area.

Why are we selling:

We are selling very reluctantly as it is such a special and unique house. I’ll really miss it and the neighbours. However, my kids have moved out and it’s time to downsize.

Year built

The brick half of the house closer to the street was built in 1951 and the timber section closer to the golf course was added in 1961. We have done several renovations since we bought the property 23 years ago.
