Light-filled and modern, with a garden that sets it apart

This two-level Northcote home has personality to spare. Modern and expressive in its design, it embraces character and a strong sense of identity.

Light is a constant throughout, with generous windows and good natural light across both levels giving the interior an open feel. The main living area is arranged as an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, where leafy garden outlooks bring a soft, green backdrop. Glass doors extend the space directly to the deck and into the established rear garden, making indoor and outdoor living feel naturally connected. The kitchen has good storage, an Asko dishwasher, and gas cooking.

Three bedrooms include one with a separate study and one with a mezzanine space, and two bathrooms both with showers over baths are well distributed over the two floors, creating flexibility for working-from-home setups. Additionally, there is a landing on the first floor offering flexibility as another study space.

Other highlights include storage, gas heating, double glazing, split system air conditioning on the first floor, and easy remote off-street parking via the rear right of way.

Positioned close to trams, trains, local shops, CERES and the Merri Creek, and zoned to Northcote High School, the home sits on the edge of Northcote's Sumner Estate and Brunswick East. Well-connected and easy to live in, it’s a sought-after inner-north setting.

Owners Notes

Once a local milk bar, this house was designed with aesthetic appeal, functionality and flexibility in mind for studio/gallery and home sanctuary. Whilst it has a high-profile street presence, it offers a private secluded garden oasis via rear lane access.

What we love:

The home is environmentally conscious with double glazing on external windows and doors, skylights, and fully insulated ceilings and walls. It has warm timbers throughout and a superb staircase with inbuilt storage.

The garden greets you and beckons you into its space. A surprisingly good size with established trees, car parking and shed. The garden has a lush tropical feel, productive orange and lemon trees and a vegetable patch. The back deck is excellent for entertaining.

The sunset views from the upstairs windows and pausing to watch birds, bats and hot air balloons providing all-year round beauty and opportunity for stillness amongst the busyness of city life.

Location we will miss:

Easy access to Melbourne’s bustling inner-North between Sydney Road Brunswick and High Street Northcote, and closeness to public transport. With Sumner Estate behind and nearby access to wonderful walks through CERES and the meandering Merry Creek and numerous open parklands. We will miss the fabulous selection of local well-known and lesser-known cafes.

Why is it for sale?

Downsizing and passing it with fond memories to new folk.
