Mid-century modern living, redefined
The striking entry, framed by a custom reeded glass and timber screen, sets the tone for the spaces beyond. Inside, Tasmanian oak hardwood floors and timber accents create a warm and timeless feel, while the sunken lounge offers a cosy contrast to the open-plan dining and kitchen. The kitchen is a true centrepiece, featuring engineered stone benchtops and splashback, skylights above the island, a 900mm induction cooktop, dual ovens, and a slate-green walk-in pantry that keeps appliances and clutter out of sight.
Two bedrooms are positioned on the ground floor alongside the main bathroom, which has been fully renovated with floor-to-ceiling tiles, a custom Tasmanian oak vanity, and a luxurious, light-filled design. Upstairs, two further bedrooms are equally generous in size, complemented by soft window furnishings and an ensuite finished to the same high standard with bespoke details and floor-to-ceiling tiles. The redesigned laundry cleverly doubles as a heated drying space with overhead and pull-out drying rails, perfect for Melbourne winters, while the landscaped front and rear gardens provide inviting outdoor areas for the family, relaxing or entertaining.
A single garage plus additional off-street parking via the driveway adds practical convenience to this stunning home.
Located in a quiet, family-friendly street, the home enjoys a welcoming community atmosphere. Perfectly positioned between Sydney Road in Coburg and High Street in Preston, you are moments from vibrant cafes, restaurants, Preston Market, and boutique shopping. Merri Creek trails and parklands are nearby for weekend walks, while trams, local buses, and easy city access make commuting a breeze.
Owners Notes
What do you love about the home?
We’ve owned the home for four years. We were drawn to its mid-century architectural form and the original 1970s charm, which gives it real character. The generous living areas and large bedrooms immediately stood out - there’s a real sense of space throughout the home. After spending the last four years thoughtfully renovating the house, we’re now ready to move on to our next renovation project.
We’ve loved the warmth and character of the home - the Tasmanian oak hardwood floors and timber accents throughout create a welcoming, warm and timeless feel. The skylights above the kitchen island bring in beautiful natural light and the new kitchen makes it a dream space to entertain. One of our favourite features is the custom entry screen - a nod to mid-century design with reeded glass and timber detailing. It provides privacy while offering practical storage for shoes and coats. The sunken lounge offers a lovely balance between open-plan living and a more enclosed, cosy space.
The home has been architecturally designed and thoughtfully renovated. Every detail has been considered to enhance flow, function, and comfort, while celebrating the home’s original character. It’s a unique, move-in-ready home with warmth, style, and personality - designed to stand the test of time.
What do we love about the area?
We’ve been lucky to have fantastic neighbours on both sides, young families with kids, creating a great little community together. The neighbour’s trampoline has become a popular spot for the kids on the street! The neighbour’s dog up the road likes to greet you on his way back from the park at the end of the road. It’s a quiet, friendly neighbourhood with a great sense of connection.
We’re perfectly positioned between Sydney Road in Coburg and High Street in Preston, so there’s no shortage of great food, shopping, and amenities. The Preston Market is a local favourite, and we’re big fans of Kick Ass Burgers on High Street. For daily needs, the local shops on Elizabeth Street are just up the road.
Public transport is very accessible, both the 1 and 11 trams are less than a 10-minute walk away, and there’s a bus stop at the end of the street, making commuting to the city easy. The Merri Creek trail and surrounding parklands are just down the road, perfect for walking, running, and cycling.
What features does your property have?
We’ve completed a full renovation over the past four years. One of the biggest transformations was relocating the entry, which completely changed the way the house flows and unlocked the full potential of the original floor plan. The kitchen is brand new, featuring a 900mm induction cooktop, two ovens, a dishwasher, and an incredible slate-green walk-in pantry that hides appliances and keeps the space clean and functional. Cabinetry is finished in Tasmanian oak laminate, with engineered stone benchtops and splashback, and a double-bowl stainless steel sink.
We removed the old ’70s carpet to reveal beautiful Tasmanian oak hardwood floors throughout the house. We added custom built-in cabinetry in the living area to reflect mid-century design while creating a warm, luxurious space. Both bathrooms were fully renovated - the upstairs bathroom features a solid Tasmanian oak vanity and matching mirror. All four bedrooms were updated with new flooring, paint, and curtains – with one bedroom featuring Dulux Redy-Brown paint to give a cosy space.
The laundry was redesigned for Melbourne winters, with overhead and pull-out drying rails and new heating, effectively turning it into a drying cupboard. New air conditioning was installed in the dining and upstairs bedroom, new heating throughout with all ductwork replaced, and a new hot water system was installed around 3–4 years ago. We also undertook full landscaping front and back with new entertainment area.
