A note from the owners:
There’s something truly special about the home we created for our young family at 53 Little Smith Fitzroy. The architectural renovation retains and enhances the character and soul of the original warehouse, something that cannot be replicated in a new building.
You can feel and see the history in the original rough brick walls and the poured concrete slab of the first floor ceiling with all its rugged, rustic marks made by the builders more than 100 years ago, the coarse board marked concrete beams with exposed rock aggregate, the crusty remnants where walls and the stair once stood. We really loved looking up at that amazing ceiling and pondering the many incarnations of the building.
We will miss how you could be in the hustle and bustle of the inner city one minute and then moments later relaxing in the restful, luxurious sanctuary of home, looking out at our lush green garden. Nestled in the heart of Fitzroy, it’s just a short walk or bike ride to many of the best parts of Melbourne; the CBD for work, dining or shopping, the MCG, the great restaurants, pubs, cafes and artisan produce stores along Smith and Gertrude streets, and the beautiful landscapes and tranquillity of the nearby Fitzroy and Carlton Gardens.
We never took for granted how lucky we were to have it all on our doorstep and we will miss it.
We’re now excited for someone new to experience the same sense of connection, comfort and calm, in our unique creative home.
