This Thursday, 18 December, Melbourne is set to turn up the heat, with temperatures tipped to hit 36°C. To celebrate the season, we’re spreading some summer cheer by bringing free festive ice cream to our local streets and neighbourhoods.
Nelson Alexander is teaming up with our friends and a local favourite Billy Van Creamy, a family-run, Melbourne-founded ice cream maker, to hand out handmade, small-batch ice cream across the city.
Why We Love Billy Van Creamy
Every flavour is made in-house using high-quality, seasonal ingredients, free from artificial stabilisers, emulsifiers and flavours. Founded in 2014 by brothers Alex and Mitch Wells, Billy Van Creamy started with a single truck atop Ruckers Hill in Northcote.
Today, they’ve grown across Melbourne but remain true to their ingredient-first, sustainable approach. From locally sourced dairy and fruit to vegan, gluten-free and halal-friendly options, everything is made with care - because simple, well-made ice cream is always best.
What’s on the Menu?
For the day, we’re serving a limited-edition Gingerbread House flavour, specially made in collaboration with Nelson Alexander, alongside some all-time favourites:
- Gingerbread House (GF): Brown sugar cookies folded through fresh ginger milk. Gently spiced, nostalgic, and made just for this festive season.
- Lemon Sorbet (Vegan, GF): Bright, zesty and instantly refreshing.
- Peanut Butter (Vegan, GF): Roasted peanut butter with dark chocolate swirls and crunchy bits.
- Chocolate (GF): 72% Sumatran chocolate with smooth organic milk. A true classic.
- Mango Passion Pavlova (GF): Creamy mango ice cream with passionfruit coulis and house-made pavlova pieces. Summer nostalgia in every bite.
Every scoop is handmade in-house by the Billy Van Creamy team, ensuring it’s fresh, wholesome and delicious.
