Ivanhoe

A leafy suburb rich in history, Ivanhoe is located 10 km north-east of Melbourne’s Central Business District.

Ivanhoe is renowned for its older style homes, with many dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The suburb is serviced by two railway stations; Ivanhoe and Darebin. The area hosts two of Melbourne’s few private schools in the northern suburbs: Ivanhoe Grammar School and Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School. It is also home to one of Victoria’s oldest state schools, Ivanhoe Primary School, established in 1853. One of Ivanhoe’s most renowned features is the annual Christmas lights display on The Boulevard. Each year many residents in the street cover their homes and front gardens with lights and other colourful Christmas decorations, attracting many people from all over Melbourne to the extravaganza.

Healthcare & Amenities

Ivanhoe is positioned within close proximity to one of Melbourne’s major medical precincts, with the Austin Hospital, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital, and Warringal Private Hospital all nearby. Combined with local clinics, dentists, and wellness professionals, the suburb provides peace of mind for residents of all ages. Ivanhoe also has excellent library, council, and civic services, supporting a high quality of life.

Parks, Nature & Recreation

Despite being so close to the city, Ivanhoe offers a wealth of green space and outdoor amenity. Locals enjoy easy access to the Darebin Creek Trail and Main Yarra Trail, which link to vast parklands, sports fields, and scenic walking and cycling tracks. Ivanhoe Park, Chelsworth Park, and Ford Park are local favourites for picnics, weekend sport, or simply enjoying the outdoors. The nearby Ivanhoe Golf Course and Yarra Flats Parklands add to the area’s appeal for nature lovers and active families.

Location & Connectivity

Ivanhoe enjoys exceptional connectivity, making it ideal for those who work in the city but prefer the tranquillity of suburban living. Served by two train stations—Ivanhoe Station and Eaglemont Station—on the Hurstbridge Line, the commute to the CBD is both quick and reliable. The area is also well serviced by local bus routes and close to major roads such as Heidelberg Road and the Eastern Freeway, ensuring easy travel across greater Melbourne.
